This is a "transition era" model 70 rifle chambered in .270 Winchester. It has the cloverleaf tang of the pre-war models combined with the smooth, drilled rear receiver of the later models. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 67805, indicating a 1947 manufacture date. The rifle has a Lyman 48WJS receiver sight, in excellent condition, and the rear dovetail has been filled with a blank.
The stock has been recently refinished, including the reproduction recoil pad. The finish is in near perfect condition. The sling swivels were replaced with Super Grade swivel bases and the action has been bedded to the stock. The bedding is not recent but is firmly bonded to the stock. The checkering on this rifle is clean, crisp, and unmarred. The barrel channel appears to have been slightly opened to float the barrel.
The metal finishes and parts appear to be original and are in very good to excellent condition. The barrel finish is in excellent condition with only minor wear at the muzzle and one tiny scratch near the chamber. There is some finish wear and thinning on the bolt components, especially the bolt handle, which also has a small patch of freckling. The bottom metal has a handful of light scratches, and the receiver has a little fading.
This barrel has mild throat wear and just a few shallow pits. It rates an 8 out of 10. Borescope verified.
