This is a .30-06 target rifle produced in 1955 grading in NRA very good to excellent condition.

This particular rifle has some interesting aspects to it which have been a bit hard to fully understand. While there is no question it is a 1955 target rifle, there are some hints it may be something more. The serial number is in the Van Orden sniper block and just just 7 rifles off from the documented civilian Van Orden delivered to Victor Dawson of Silver Springs, MD. The stock has a few oddities as well, including a flat rather than curved buttplate, despite having the full factory length of pull. Also, both the type of bedding in the stock and its color match the bedding found in Van Orden rifles.

The original bluing on the rifle is near perfect - grading at 98% with no noted edge wear, rubs or other marks. There are a couple minor marks on the bottom metal, which are the only noted blemishes. The bore of the 24" barrel is grades an 8/10 under the borescope, with no throat erosion, heat checking or pitting.

The stock finish is not original and appears to be a well done restoration. There are a few handling marks and minor blemishes as seen in the photos. There are no cracks, chips, gouges, stains or other noted damages. The stock has bedding at the recoil lug and at the tang screw of the variety found on Van Orden rifles. There is filled and very hard to detect filled hole in the bottom of the grip. The stock has a flat butt and a factory steel buttplate.

All parts are correct and appear original to the rifle. The action is fitted with the correct "T" marked trigger. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver. This rifle is fitted with a vintage set of Redfield Olympic target sights.

NOTE: This rifle must be shipped to an FFL or C&R holder who can complete the transfer. If needed, we are happy to assist you in locating an FFL holder near you who can receive and transfer the rifle to you.
