This is an all-original pre-war Super Grade rifle chambered in .30-06. It is serial marked 12808, indicating a 1938 manufacture date, and the bolt is serial number matched to the rifle. The rifle retains most factory finishes with no added holes or other modifications. It grades in NRA excellent condition.
The bluing is dark and even throughout, grading at 95%, with only the muzzle showing bluing loss. There is evidence that the bluing has been touched-up at some point long ago. There are hints of pitting on the receiver bridge with bluing over top, and also a ding on the floor plate which is covered with bluing. While we can't say for certain, these details indicate that there has been some rebluing to the metal. The receiver is equipped with a Lyman WJS receiver sight, the correct pre-war style with target turrets.
The barrel has been borescope-inspected, revealing no throat wear or any wear at all. There is some scattered shallow pitting, but overall, it remains in excellent condition, grading a 9/10.
This stock appears to have all-original finishes and is well cared-for, with the expected scratches, dings and scrapes of an 85-year-old rifle. There are no cracks, gouges, or other notable damage. It has been notched to receive the Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight - an available factory option. It retains its original steel buttplate, though most of the bluing is worn off. The checkering is hand-cut at 20 lines per inch, and remains in excellent condition, with no gouges, flat spots, or other blemishes. The grip cap is original but has faded from black to its current brown color.
This rifle demonstrates all correct pre-war features, including cloverleaf tang, clip-slot, un-drilled rear bridge, gold bead front sight, and flag-style safety. The spring is stamped #1 and the floor plate underside is stamped with a triangle-dash (although it's difficult to see). All parts are original and correct for a super grade rifle.
