The .35 Remington is the second rarest cataloged chambering for the Model 70 with only 404 produced. Initially cataloged in 1941, no rifles were shipped chambered for the .35 Remington until 1946. The chambering was listed in the catalog through 1947, although a small number of rifles continued to be produced until 1954.

Further increasing the rarity in any configuration, Winchester produced rifles chambered for the .35 Remington in Standard, Super Grade, Carbine, and Target configurations. On this rifle, both the bolt and receiver are marked with serial number 50247, indicating it was rifle was produced in 1945, and it is in the standard rifle configuration.

Some parts of the rifle appear to have been reblued. The bluing on the bottom metal is nearly flawless but was probably either reblued or this is replacement metal installed later. The bolt sleeve appears to have some freckling that was blued over. The receiver has a little "blotchiness" that may have been the result of refinishing. The steel buttplate and screws were probably reblued. The metal is generally in very good condition, with a few small scratches and the aforementioned freckling. The receiver has not been drilled for scope mounts.

The bore shows almost no erosion but substantial freckling/discoloration, most likely from storage. It rates an 8 out of 10 with borescope inspection.

The low comb stock was likely refinished at some time in the past. It is in near perfect condition. There are no dings, splits, cracks, or other repairs or damage. As previously mentioned, the buttplate appears to have been reblued.
