This is an impeccable Featherweight rifle chambered in .270 Winchester, produced in 1957.
Presented as a gift from a newlywed husband to his bride in 1957, this rifle was stored in a case under a bed for nearly all of the 60 years which followed. The marriage must have taken on hobbies other than those the husband imagined, as the bride never once fired her rifle. In fact, this rifle would have remained unfired to this day if it were not for a brother in law who in the 1960s took it out and fired two shots with it, "out of principle" he said. The rifle was eventually passed on to a son who was otherwise not a gun owner, but who realized the unique newness and provenance of this rifle made it something very special.
The rifle is just about perfect. It is 100% original and is in factory-new condition with two exceptions.
- There is a very small/shallow pressure mark (about 1/4" by 1/4" and 1/32" deep) on the left side of the stock below the Winchester logo on the receiver. This dent has not broken the wood or the finish, but is noticeable when viewed with the light at the right angle.
- There is a very small rust spot (about 1/16" by 1/16") just behind the sight ramp on the left side of the barrel.
No attempt has been made to remedy or reduce either of these spots. The former is barely visible in the photos. The latter is visible in the closeup of the left side of the sight ramp.
The rifle will come with a box of Winchester Super X .270 Win ammo with 18 unfired shots - the original box used by the brother in law when this rifle took its first and only two shots since leaving the Winchester factory.
NOTE: This rifle must be shipped to an FFL or C&R holder who can complete the transfer. If needed, we are happy to assist you in locating an FFL holder near you who receive and transfer the rifle to you.
