This is a pristine 1949 target rifle chambered in .257 Roberts, marked with serial number 114262. It presents in all factory-original configuration and finishes. It's an extremely high-condition rifle, grading in NRA excellent - almost perfect - condition. It is a transition model, displaying a nice combination of pre-war and post-war features.
The original bluing on the rifle is in perfect condition, with no discernable wear or blemishes, even around the muzzle and frequently handled areas. It is as close to 100% as you can get.
The bore shows evidence of slight use with some minor erosion in the throat, otherwise the length of the bore is in excellent condition. We grade the bore an 8 out of 10 with the borescope.
The stock retains its original factory finish in excellent (approaching perfect) condition. There are virtually no scratches, dings, or flaws of any kind. It has not been shortened, bedded or otherwise modified and retains its original steel buttplate.
All parts are original for the period and chambering, including the original scope blocks, as well as the bolt which is serial number matched to the receiver. Based on our examination, we conclude this rifle is 100% original and has seen little to no actual use.
