This post-64 Target rifle is chambered in .308, and is in excellent condition. The receiver is marked with serial number G1194664, indicating a 1975 manufacture date, though it was made available in the catalog in 1976.
This is a special adaptation target model introduced in 1972 with refinements over the regular target style rifle, incorporating the sophisticated mechanical elements of the international army match rifle with the conventional marksman stock. There is a complete discussion of these rifles in Roger Rule's book on pages 323 and 325.
These rifles were built in the Winchester custom shop and are extremely rare, with factory features including:
- Externally adjustable trigger
- Adjustable firing pin stop screw
- Receiver equipped with stripper clip slot
- 26" deeply-counterbored medium-heavy barrel
- Factory-Acraglass bedding of the action and chamber section of the barrel
- A hard black rubber buttplate
The rifle is fitted with Redfield mounts for Olympic sights (front and rear).
All finishes are original. Bluing grades 95% with a few slight handling marks and minor edgewear.
The bore of this rifle in great shape. The rifling is clean and sharp. There's no notable pitting, and very little wear at all in the throat. We rate it a 9 out of 10. Boroscope verified.
The original stock finish is smooth and even, with no cracks, splits, or repairs. It shows some light cosmetic scratches and dings from handling. The stock retains its factory-original hard black rubber buttplate, with no noted modifications.
The jeweled bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver. The rifle appears 100% original with no modifications.
