The rifle was produced in 1948 in the third most rare model 70 chambering - 7MM (7MMx57 Mauser). Just a fraction of a percent of model 70s were chambered in this cartridge. The rifle has been modified with the addition of a Griffin Howe scope mounting system installed on the side of the receiver with a Lyman Alaskan 2&1/2 power scope, complete with leather scope covers. This is a "transition era" receiver with the cloverleaf tang of the pre-war models and the smooth rear receiver (factory drilled for scope bases) of the post-war models. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 84879. The rifle grades in NRA very good condition.
The metal is in very good condition with an original factory finish, no notable blemishes but light bluing wear, mostly on the bottom metal.
The low comb stock has its original finish and is in very good condition. There are light handling marks but no deep dings, gouges, dents, splits or cracks. It has an aftermarket recoil pad.
The Lyman scope is in excellent condition. The bluing is near perfect, the optics are crystal clear, and the adjustments knobs move easily. It has a post-and-crosshair reticle.
The bore of the 24" barrel is nearly perfect, with nearly no throat wear and no pitting. It grades at 9 out of 10 under borescope examination.
