This is a .220 Swift standard rifle produced in 1948 with a serial number of 85058. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver. The barrel is marked with a 1942 production date; possibly this barrel was produced during the early war years (extremely low rifle shipments) and not actually installed on a receiver until later on in the "clean up" production.
The original bluing on the bolt components, receiver, and barrel is very good with only light wear. The trigger guard has a scratch in the finish. The floorplate was reblued at some point with light freckling showing through the finish. There is light wear, probably from a scope mount, on the receiver rear bridge. There are no deep scratches or dings in the metal.
The bore of the 26" stainless barrel is in very good condition with no pitting but some very light wear in the throat and on the lands in the first few inches of the bore. We grade the bore an 8 out of 10.
The low comb stock has light handling wear in the form of shallow scratches, small dings, and rubs in the finish, but there are no cracks, splits, deep dents, or other damage. The original steel buttplate has some finish wear and shallow pitting. The checkering is generally clean and crisp but with some flat spots and wear.
