This is a .243 Winchester Featherweight rifle produced in 1960. The rifle has all original components and grades in NRA very good condition. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver; both are marked with serial number 482847.
Winchester offered rifles without sights in the pre-64 years, but only by special order and relatively few were ever produced. After close examination of this rifle, we have determined it was produced in the Winchester factory, not a fake or custom rifle.
The bluing grades at 95% and is in excellent condition with only light wear on the bolt components. The bolt handle has been reblued. The aluminum floorplate and trigger guard are in excellent condition. The metal is in excellent condition with no significant scratches, dings, freckling, or other defects.
The 22" Featherweight barrel has absolutely no pits, but the throat wear shows that the previous owner enjoyed shooting it. It has notable wear and heat cracking in the first inch or so; fortunately, this disappears further down the barrel. We grade it as 7 out of 10 upon borescope inspection.
The stock retains its original finish and is in very good condition with some handling marks but no cracks, gouges, or stains. The checkering has just a few flat points but is still well defined. The factory-original hard rubber butt plate is in good condition. The recoil lug was recently bedded to the action and the barrel is fully floated.
