This is a .264 Winchester Magnum Featherweight rifle produced in 1961. The rifle has all original finishes and grades in NRA excellent condition. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver, with number 538272.
Winchester offered rifles without sights in the pre-64 years, but only by special order and relatively few were ever produced. And because this rifle is chambered in .264 Winchester Magnum (a relatively scarce chambering, representing just 4.2% of model 70 production), a genuine special order sightless example is truly a rare find. After close examination of this rifle, we have determined it was produced in the Winchester factory, not a fake or custom rifle.
The factory bluing grades at 90% and presents in excellent condition, with very light wear around the muzzle and the bolt knob. There are a few small scratches or dings to the bluing on the barrel. The trigger guard and floor plate have almost no finish wear. Only the extractor ring shows significant bluing loss. Overall, the metal is in excellent condition with no significant scratches, dings, freckling, or other defects.
The bore of the 22" Featherweight barrel has no pitting, but notable throat erosion, giving it a rating of 7 out of 10 upon borescope inspection.
The stock retains its original finish and is in very good condition with a few light handling marks. There are no cracks, gouges, chips, or past repairs. The checkering is clean and well defined with no notable flaws. The factory-original recoil pad is in very good condition and well fitted.
