This is a 1951 Model 70 Standard rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 204140, indicating a 1951 manufacturing date. Although outwardly the rifle shows some wear and handling marks, the condition of the bore remains almost perfect.
The low comb stock wears its factory finish with scratches, scuffs, and dings. The checkering remains in good shape with a few notable flat spots and one major ding. The original steel buttplate has notable bluing wear, but no rust or pitting. The stock has no cracks, splits, chips or past repairs.
The metal finishes show a range of wear and bluing loss. The end of the barrel has scuffs and rubs, muzzle wear, and some bluing loss to the sight hood. The receiver and bottom metal remain in very nice condition, and the bolt handle bluing has only mild thinning. The bolt sleeve assembly and extractor have little bluing loss, but the extractor ring is quite worn.
The bore of the 24" barrel is excellent, with almost no sign of wear, rating a 9+ out of 10 under borescope evaluation.
