This is a 1951 Model 70 Standard rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The receiver and bolt are marked with matching serial number 195597, indicating a 1951 manufacture date.
The original metal finishes remain in excellent condition. There are a few very light scratches to the barrel bluing, some wear to the receiver rails and minor fading on the bolt handle. The bottom metal is nearly perfect with no notable edgewear, scratches or blemishes. The steel buttplate has some bluing loss and minor scratches and dings around the edges.
The bore of the 24" barrel is in excellent condition, with no throat wear but a few shallow pits. We rate this bore a 9 out of 10 under borescope evaluation.
The low comb stock retains its factory finish with honest handling wear. There are scattered scratches, dings and scuffs to the wood but no cracks, splits, repairs or structural damage. The checkering is remarkably clean and sharp.
