This is a beautiful 1947 Model 70 rifle chambered in .30 Gov't '06. The receiver and bolt are marked with serial number 61091 indicating a 1947 manufacture date. Although this date falls into the "transition" era, the receiver presents all "Pre-war" features with a cloverleaf tang, textured rear bridge, and stripper clip slot. This rifle must have been one of the very last of the pre-war configured rifles ever produced.
The factory bluing on this rifle presents in excellent condition, rating 90%. The barrel and receiver have almost no edgewear, thinning or scratches. The barrel has widespread light freckling, especially along the underside. The bottom metal also shows this same freckling, but has no major scratches, scuffs or edgewear. There is minor finish wear on some of the bolt components and the receiver rails. The bolt knob remains dark and smooth.
The bore of this rifle is in excellent condition, with no throat erosion or heat cracking. A few shallow pits near the bore are the only imperfection. This bore rates a 9 out of 10 with borescope inspection.
The low-comb stock shows a few scattered handling marks but overall remains in excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips, dents, splits, oil stains or past repairs. The finish is originally except for a section along the bottom of the stock, between the floor plate and the front swivel. There were deep scratches in this area which were repaired and refinished in the Pre64win shop. The checkering remains in very good condition and the factory steel buttplate has only mild bluing loss.
