This is a 1956 "short magnum" (458) action which has been customized by Griffin & Howe during the Abercrombie & Fitch era of the company. We acquired this from a gunmaker who was thinning his parts hoard.
The customizations are classic G&H, including:
- The G&H side scope mount
- Mini-jeweling of the bolt and extractor
- 4-panel teardrop checkering of the bolt knob
- Silky smoothed and trued action function
- Satin rust blue of the receiver to match the side mount
The G&H side mount is tall height with 1" rings and is suitable for a large objective scope and a stock with a high comb. The steel Weaver K 1.5-1 scope currently in the mount was present when we acquired the action and is period correct for a late 1950s action with a post reticle.
The condition of the action is is near perfect with no notable finish wear or other damages. The scope is also in excellent condition with crystal clear optics and just slight edge wear at the eyepiece and objective bezels.
The scope is included with the action, or the action can be discounted by $200 if a buyer wants it without the scope.
NOTE: If you live outside of Washington state, this rifle must be shipped to an FFL holder who can complete the transfer. If needed, we are happy to assist you in locating an FFL holder near you who receive and transfer the rifle to you.
