This is a nice .22 Hornet standard rifle produced in 1941 and is equipped from the factory with a Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight. The rifle grades in NRA very good condition.

The stock is unmodified with the original steel buttplae. There are a number of light handling marks throughout the stock, but no cracks gouges or noteworthy blemishes. The stock appears to retain its original finish, but has had an additional coat of finish applied sometime in the past, evidenced by some finish in the checkering. The checkering remains well defined with no major blemishes, and is somewhat smoothed from handling. The bluing of the factory steel buttplate is beginning to show a brown patina. The original Winchester bluing of the rifle is about 90%-95%, with some edge wear and a few light blemishes from honest use. There is small area of cold blue on the barrel in the shank area and some light scratches near the barrel, but no large rubs or major defects. The barrel date stamp is 1932, which makes it carry-over production from the model 54 - an oddity of Winchester production, but is 100% correct for this year of .22 Hornet. The bore of the 24" CMS steel barrel is bright with strong rifling. There are two plugged D&T holes in the rear bridge which are spaced correctly for a Weaver mount. These are hidden under the receiver sight aperture arm. The floor plate has edge wear and few light scratches in the finish. The trigger guard has begun to brown with patina. The bolt is serial number matched to the rifle. All original Hornet parts are present. The inner magazine box has a slight deformation but feeds cartridges fine. The original .22 Hornet chamber has been verified - this rifle has not been rechambered.
