This is an outstanding 1938 Super Grade rifle chambered in .220 Swift. The rifle retains its original factory finishes in NRA excellent, approaching perfect condition.
The stock is in excellent condition with no cracks or stains and just one minor blemish in the finish (see photos and additional remarks below). The checkering is crisp and unblemished and the stock retains its original steel buttplate with no visible wear. The factory bluing is perfect with no edge wear, scratches, rubs or other blemishes. There is a plugged D&T hole in the rear bridge which is spaced correctly for a Redfield JR mount, but there is no evidence of a mount ever being installed on the rifle. The bore of the 26" CMS steel barrel is perfect with no evidence of ever being fired. The bore and overall rifle condition make a strong case this rifle has not been fired since leaving the factory. Under the sight hood is the correct Redfield gold bead sight, which is unique to the Super Grade rifle. At the rear is the correct 22G sight. The bolt is serial number matched to the receiver and the rifle is mechanically perfect with no evident problems. All aspects of the rifle are correct for a 1938 Super Grade rifle.
This rifle was acquired from a well-known collection in southern California. We are happy to provide details upon request. Based on our examination and the known rifle provenance, we conclude this rifle is a factory super grade rifle with 100% original finishes and which has seen little to no actual use. The one small blemish in the stock occurred in 1971 as a result of the San Fernando earthquake when this rifle (along with several others in the collection) were shaken from their racks.
