This .257 Roberts standard rifle was produced in February, 1950. It is a high-condition rifle with all factory finishes and in original configuration. It grades in NRA excellent, condition. Just 2% of pre-64 model 70 rifles were chambered .257 Roberts, making this chambering scarce and highly collectible. The excellent condition of this rifle make it particularly rare and desirable.
The stock is a nicely figured piece of superior American walnut which retains its factory finish. It has a few very slight handling marks and one small 0.25" blemish near the forend tip (see closeup photo). There are no cracks, oil stains or other problems in the stock, and the checkering is sharp with no issues. The factory steel buttplate is intact with minimal wear. The original bluing is near perfect - grading at 98% with no noteworthy edge wear and just a few slight blemishes. The one notable blemish is a few light tool marks on the rear sight boss. The bore of the 24" barrel is bright with strong rifling and no pits or abnormal wear. The action is tight with no issues or visible wear. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver.
