This is a very collectible standard rifle chambered in .257 Roberts, produced in 1951. The rifle retains the original factory finishes and has no added holes or other modifications. It grades in NRA excellent (like-new) condition.
This rifle has a 5-digit marking on the bottom on the barrel indicating it was returned to the Winchester factory for repairs or re-work in the Custom Shop.
1951 was the first year Winchester produced the Monte Carlo stock, and this rifle has it. The stock is original in all respects with a very few light handling marks, but no significant cracks, gouges, splits, or repairs. It retains its original steel butt plate, in near-perfect condition. The checkering is also in near-perfect condition without any notable wear.
The original bluing is in excellent condition without any notable wear, including edge wear. The are no notable dings, pitting, or deep scratches in the metal.
There is no evidence in the bore of the 24" barrel that this rifle was ever fired; no throat wear, no heat cracking, no copper fouling. The are a few small metal defects just inside the muzzle (cleaning rod damage?) that reduce its rating to a 9 out of 10. Borescope verified.
