This is a 1961 Model 70 Standard rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 507766, indicating a 1961 manufacturing date.
The metal finishes are mostly original, and overall are in very good to excellent condition. The barrel has excellent condition bluing with some light muzzle wear and a spot of rust pitting on the sight hood. The receiver bluing is also excellent. The bolt handle shows some thinning, and the extractor and extractor ring show significant bluing wear. The trigger guard has original finish with some scratches and dings. The floor plate has been refinished.
The bore of the 24" barrel has light throat wear and minor pitting. We rate this bore an 8 out of 10 with borescope inspection.
This rifle wears a low comb stock which is not original to the rifle. It would have first worn a Monte Carlo style stock. The current stock contains significant handling marks, scratches and dings. It has an aftermarket Pachmayr vented recoil pad which remains soft and pliable, in excellent condition. The checkering remains in good condition with no notable damage, but some flattening of the sharpness.
