The .35 Remington is the second rarest cataloged chambering for the Model 70 with only 404 produced. Initially cataloged in 1941, no rifles were chambered for the .35 Remington until 1946. The chambering was listed in the catalog through 1947, although a small number of rifles continued to be produced until 1954.
Further increasing the rarity in any configuration, Winchester produced rifles chambered for the .35 Remington in Standard, Super Grade, Carbine, and Target configurations. This rifle was produced in 1946 in the target rifle configuration and grades in NRA excellent condition.
The metal of this rifle grades at 90% plus overall. The barrel bluing is almost flawless, with only slight muzzle wear; however the bottom metal shows more evidence of handling, with bluing loss and scratches.
The bore shows almost no erosion or pitting, just a slight amount of copper fouling. Most likely this rifle was carried more than it was fired. It rates a 9 out of 10 with borescope inspection. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the rifle.
The marksman stock has its original finish and steel buttplate. The wood shows honest wear: numerous light handling marks, shallow dings and scratches, and what appears to be a small stain or burn mark. Please see photos. The buttplate shows moderate bluing loss.
All parts are correct and appear to be original to the rifle and the bolt is serial number matched to the receiver. The rifle is equipped with a long-slide Lyman 48 receiver sight and a Redfield globe front sight. The trigger has the word "target" imprinted, and the magazine box is stamped with a 7; both of these are correct and original.
