This is .375 H&H magnum rifle with a straight taper barrel produced in 1938. The bolt and receiver are both marked with serial number 13922. Between 1936 and 1945 Winchester produced some standard configuration rifles with a 24" medium heavy barrel, but only in the .375 H&H chambering. The receiver has been drilled with one extra hole for a scope base. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight, with target turrets, and the rear dovetail has been filled with a blank.
The original bluing is in very good condition at 95%. There is some wear on the bolt components, especially the bolt handle, which was possibly re-blued. There is some additional wear on the rails, on the bottom metal, and at the muzzle. The are a few shallow scratches in the barrel, but no other notable metal damage.
The bore of the 24" barrel is in excellent condition, with no throat wear, and only a few very small pits. We grade this bore a 9 out of 10 under borescope inspection.
The refinished low comb stock retains its original recoil pad. The stock has been notched for the receiver sight. There are no significant blemishes, dents, cracks, gouges, or other defects. The 20 lines-per-inch checkering is in excellent condition. The recoil pad, while stained, is still pliable.
