The rifle was produced in 1939 in the third most rare model 70 chambering - 7MM (7MMx57 Mauser). Just a fraction of a percent of model 70s were chambered in this cartridge. The rifle has been modified with the addition of a Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight, this entailed notching the stock underneath the sight. It was further modified in that the receiver rear bridge had at one point been drilled for the addition of a scope mount; these holes have been carefully removed with the addition of a piece fitted into the receiver over the top of the holes. The rifle grades in NRA very good condition.
The metal is in very good condition with an original factory finish, no notable blemishes but bluing wear, particularly on the bottom metal, near the muzzle, and the bolt handle. There are a few light scratches on the bottom metal.
The stock is original to the rifle but may have been rubbed out or overcoated at some point. There are a few dings and scratches but no repairs, splits, cracks or other notable damage. The stock retains its steel buttplate, which has pitting and minor wear.
The bore of the 24" barrel is in excellent condition. The rifling is sharp; there is very minimal wear and only light pitting near the muzzle. It grades at 8 out of 10 under borescope examination. The receiver and the bolt are both marked with serial number 18153.
