The rifle was produced in 1941 in the third most rare model 70 chambering - 7MM (7MMx57 Mauser). Just a fraction of a percent of model 70s were chambered in this cartridge. The rifle has been modified with the addition of a Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight, this entailed notching the stock underneath the sight. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 39148. The rifle grades in NRA very good condition.
The metal is in very good condition with an original factory finish, no notable blemishes but some light bluing wear, particularly on the bottom metal and the bolt components. There are a few light scratches on the bottom metal.
The stock is original to the rifle but may have been rubbed out or overcoated at some point. This rifle came to us with a small crack in the recoil lug; this crack has been completely repaired and is no longer visible. There are a few shallow dings and scratches, honest wear, but no other notable damage. The stock retains its steel buttplate, which has pitting and minor wear.
The bore of the 24" barrel is in very good condition. There is almost no throat wear but shallow pitting scattered throughout the length of the bore. It grades at 8 out of 10 under borescope examination.
