This is a .220 Swift custom rifle based on a model 70 standard rifle produced in 1951 with a serial number of 173868, which is also marked faintly marked on the bolt. The receiver, the chamber area of the barrel, and the bottom metal has all been artfully engraved. The rear sight, instead of being drift-adjustable for windage, has a windage adjustment screw.
The low comb stock has been completed with a grip cap, a contrasting tip, and a black Old English recoil pad. The checkering pattern is similar to the Super Grade pattern. It appears the stock has crossbolts installed, concealed under wooden plugs. The stock was full-length bedded to the receiver and barrel; the bedding appears fully intact. The stock, including the checkering and recoil pad, is in near-perfect condition.
The metal is also in near perfect condition, without any notable scratches, dings or other defects. The bluing on the bolt components has some light wear but the remainder of the metal finish is in near perfect condition. It appears the receiver had been fitted with a side scope mount, which was removed, and the mounting holes filled, blended, and covered by the checkering on the outside; the evidence of this is still visible from the inside of the receiver.
The bore of the 26" stainless barrel has no pitting but enough throat wear and some light wear of the lands in the few inches of the bore to result in a rating of 9 out of 10. Borescope verified.
