This is a .220 Swift Varmint rifle produced in 1963 with all factory-original finishes. The varmint rifle configuration was produced from 1955-1963. This rifle was one of the last pre-64 models produced by Winchester. The bolt and receiver are both marked with serial number 575778, the pre-64 production ended with serial number 581471. It has the 26" medium-heavy stainless-steel barrel mated to a sporter style stock.
The metal is in excellent condition. The factory “Du-lite" bluing of the stainless barrel has no notable wear or fading. There are some very small scratches in the barrel finish. Likewise, there is no notable edge wear or fading on the receiver or bottom metal; the floorplate does have some very light freckling. There is very light bluing wear on the guide areas of the receiver where the bolt lugs contact the guides. The bluing on the bolt is near perfect.
The bore of the 26" stainless barrel has very little throat wear and mild heat crackling near the chamber, but the rest of the bore is outstanding, with sharp rifling and no pitting. We grade the bore an 8 out of 10.
All parts appear original and correct for the rifle. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the receiver.
The stock retains its factory finish in excellent condition with only light handling marks and no notable cracks, dents, or splits. The checkering is mostly in very good condition - see photos. The stock has not been shortened or otherwise modified and retains its original hard rubber buttplate. The correct 1.25" target swivels are present.
