.243 Winchester Super Grade Featherweight Rifle - 1957
This is a Super Grade Featherweight rifle chambered in .243. The rifle came to our shop as a box of parts. The box included the stock, barrel and bottom metal, but lacked an action, which apparently went into another project. That kind of thinking is a head-scratcher to us, as the Super Grade Featherweight is one of the most rare of all model 70s. To dismantle it and use the action elsewhere is truly inexplicable. Regardless, the remaining Super Grade Featherweight parts were all in very good or restorable condition, so we have proceeded to make it back into a complete rifle.
The stock is an original Super Grade Featherweight stock in restored condition. We removed a Pachmayr recoil pad and installed a red Winchester pad. The stock has been refinished and is in perfect condition.
The barrel is rust blued and in perfect condition. The bore grades near perfect at 9/10 with no appreciable wear, no heat damage, no erosion, no pits, and barely any evidence it has been shot.
The bottom metal is original Winchester parts and have not been refinished.
The action is in perfect condition and is from a 1957 standard rifle. It is in the correct serial number range for the other parts of the rifle.
Although not fully original, we felt this rifle was worth salvaging rather than being sold as parts. Winchester only produced 930 Super Grade Featherweight rifles, and just 260 were chambered in .243 Win. With its perfect bore and restored finishes, this rifle is one that will be a superb shooter and which its owner can take out and use without an ounce of guilt.
NOTE: This rifle must be shipped to an FFL or C&R holder who can complete the transfer. If needed, we are happy to assist you in locating an FFL holder near you who receive and transfer the rifle to you.
