This highly collectible rifle is chambered in the very rare .250-3000 Savage. Winchester only made 2,750 Model 70 rifles chambered for the 250-3000 cartridge. The receiver and bolt are serial number marked 23316, indicating a manufacture date in late 1939. The rifle retains original factory finishes in NRA good to very good condition. The rifle has a correct factory installed Lyman 48WJS receiver sight and the correct Lyman 31W front sight and hood. The rear sight dovetail has been filled with a Williams blank.
The stock is in very good condition with no cracks or stains, gouges, or other major damage. It does have extensive handling marks in the form of small nicks and dings from 85 years of use. The 20 lines per inch checking is original with a few minor dents but otherwise in good condition. The stock is unmodified and retains its original steel buttplate, which is missing most of its bluing. The stock finish appears to be original, showing finish loss in a few areas from wear.
The original bluing grades at 90% with some light edge wear, a few rubs, and some slight freckling on the barrel. The bottom metal also has light edge wear and a few minor scratches.
The barrel rates a 9 out of 10, with very minor pitting (very shallow) throughout the length of the bore and almost no throat wear.
