This is a .257 Roberts standard rifle, produced in 1954. It presents in all-original factory finishes and grades in NRA very good condition. Just 2% of pre-64 model 70 rifles were chambered .257 Roberts, making this chambering scarce and highly collectible. This rifle has seen some time in the woods but is in nice shape for 68 years of use and will make a nice addition to someone's collection.
The metal retains its original factory finishes with no modifications, and grades at 90%. There are a few light scratches, and the bottom metal shows some mild edgewear, but the bluing is still highly attractive.
The bore contains no issues in the throat or signs of erosion. There is some very light and scattered pitting in the barrel, resulting in this bore rating a 7 out of 10 under the borescope. The bolt is correct and serial number matched to the rifle.
The stock also retains its factory finish and original steel butt plate. It does show honest wear in the form of scratches, dings and scuffs. There's an area of flaky finish where the rifle received the most handling, and one very tiny chip. Please see photographs for close-up details of the cosmetic flaws to the stock. Other than the minor items photographed, there are no notable cracks, gouges, stains or other damages to the stock.
