This is a 1957 Model 70 Featherweight rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 400241, indicating a 1957 manufacturing date. This rifle is fitted with a low-comb stock; this was a cataloged configuration but is a lot less common than the Monte Carlo stock.
The low comb stock has some light handling wear and appears to have been touched up in a few places with some stain. It retains the factory aluminum buttplate, which has some scratches. The stock has no other significant dents, cracks, repairs, or other damage. The checkering is exceptionally clean and crisp.
The metal finishes are in very good condition with some very minor wear on the bolt components and the receiver rails. The bolt handle has some minor freckling that appears to have been finished over. The aluminum floorplate has a series of shallow dents that do not show in the photos - maybe as a result of holding the rifle in a padded vise? The barrel is in near-perfect condition. The are no other significant dings, scratches, repairs or other damage to the metal.
The bore of the 22" barrel has no throat wear but some pitting right at the muzzle. We rate it as a 9 out of 10 under borescope evaluation.
