This is a 1951 Model 70 Standard rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 197016, indicating a 1951 manufacturing date. The barrel has been marked with a 1956 manufacturing date and is a Super Grade barrel. The bolt, extractor, extractor ring, and magazine follower have all been jeweled. Most of the metal has been re-blued. While some of the parts appear to be Super Grade parts, some parts are not original to the rifle, and this not a Super Grade rifle. The action has been pillar bedded to the stock.
The Monte Carlo stock may have been previously over-coated. It retains the factory steel butt plate, which has some finish wear but no pitting. The stock has minor handling wear and a couple of shallow dings along the top of the comb but no other significant dents, cracks, repairs, or other damage. The checkering is in very good condition; clean and crisp. The stock is equipped with 1&1/4" sling swivels instead of the more common 1".
The metal finishes are generally in very good condition to excellent (refinished) condition. The barrel has been reblued, but there are a few freckles showing through the finish just below the stock line, under the chamber. The are no significant dings, scratches, repairs or other damage to the metal.
The bore of the 24" barrel has only the tiniest signs of wear, rating a 9+ out of 10 under borescope evaluation.
