This Model 70 standard rifle was produced in 1936; the first year of production. The receiver is marked with serial number 601; there is no serial number marked on the bolt. Not only is this a very early rifle, but it is chambered in a less common caliber - the .220 Swift. The rifle has been extensively restored and refinished by the Pre64 team. When the rifle came to us, the receiver had five holes for a side mount scope base and the bolt handle had been ground for scope clearance. These items were repaired and the repairs are not visible. All parts appear to be correct for the year, model, and caliber.
The low-comb stock has been refinished by the Pre64 team, including recutting the checkering and bluing the steel butt plate. The stock is in excellent (refinished) condition without any notable wear or damage except a few flat points in the checkering. There are no cracks, splits, modification, or major defects.
Most metal parts have been reblued using the slow rust bluing method and are now in near-perfect (refinished) condition. The barrel does have a few minor defects showing through the bluing and there is a small unblued spot at the muzzle.
The bore of the 26" standard contour barrel has some throat wear and some shallow pitting throughout the length of the bore. It rates a 7 out of 10. Borescope verified.
