This rifle is chambered in .30-06; the receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 59869, indicating a 1947 manufacture date. The receiver is in the "Pre-war" configuration, using the tang, rear bridge, and stripper clip slot found on the earlier rifles. This rifle would have been one of the last of the pre-war configured rifles produced. Beginning at approximately serial number 60,500, the receiver style was changed to the "transition period" configuration with the loss of the stripper clip slot and the use of the smooth rear bridge. This rifle grades in NRA very good condition.
The stock shows light wear from years of use in the form of a few shallow scratches and dings. The checkering on this rifle is clean and crisp with very little signs of wear. The stock has no cracks, splits, or repairs and it retains its original finish and steel buttplate.
The metal finishes and parts appear to be original. The bluing is in very good condition, with light edge wear and wear from the original factory rear sight. There is a notable worn spot on the bolt handle. The factory rear sight was removed, and the dovetail has been filled with a Williams blank. A Lyman 48 WHS receiver sight has been installed and the stock was notched to accommodate the sight. The receiver does not have any extra holes. There is one small ding in the top of the barrel, but no other metal damage.
This barrel shows only light wear in the throat and minimal pitting in the bore, resulting in a rating of 8 out of 10. Borescope verified.
