This post-war model 70 rifle, chambered in .30-06, is a fine representative example of the late 1940's style of rifle. The receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 99019, indicating a 1948 manufacture date; the barrel is also stamped '48. Overall, this rifle appears to have been lightly used and not abused, but it sustained some light wear from handling and storage. This rifle grades in NRA very good to excellent condition.
The low-comb stock shows light wear in the form of light scratches and scuffs and shallow dings, but without any major dents, cracks, splits, or other damage. The checkering on this rifle is clean and crisp, with just a few flat spots. The stock is unmodified and retains its original steel buttplate.
With the exception of the bolt handle, the metal finishes and parts appear to be original and in very good to excellent condition with no notable scratches, wear, freckling or other damage. The bolt handle has been reblued; the rear sight was replaced with blank and a Lyman 48WJS receiver sight was installed.
This barrel shows no throat wear but has some shallow pitting near the muzzle; rating an 8 out of 10. Borescope verified.
