This .300 H&H Magnum Sporter rifle was produced in 1950. This rifle grades in NRA very good condition. Winchester began the change to the Type III receiver in 1948 but the H&H receivers were the last to fully incorporate all the details. For example, the rear bridge on most standard Type III receivers were drilled and tapped with two holes for scope mounts. Some of the H&H receivers were not drilled and tapped until late into 1950. This is one of those receivers that was not factory drilled with the two holes, but somewhere along the line it was drilled and tapped for a single hole. This mounting hole is correctly positioned to accommodate the Redfield JR 70-A Magnum one-piece scope mount. All parts are correct and appear to be original to the rifle. The bolt is serial number matched to the receiver.
The metal grades at 90%-95% with all original bluing and no notable blemishes. There is light handling wear and a faint impression in the bluing from a past scope mount. There is a small ding on the rear sight boss from a careless replacement of the rear sight at one point, but no other noted damage, pitting, rubs or other issues.
The low comb stock retains its original steel buttplate with some bluing loss. The original stock finish is intact with a few minor blemishes, but no cracks, stains, gouges, bedding or other blemishes or modifications.
The bore of the 26" barrel is in very good condition with light throat wear and no pitting. It grades an 8 out of 10 under borescope inspection.
