This rifle has a unique combination of two rare and collectable features; the 7mm chambering and very early production. The rifle was produced in 1937 in the third most rare model 70 chambering - 7MM (7x57 Mauser). Just a fraction of a percent of model 70s were chambered in this cartridge - 1,470 rifles, or 1/4th of 1%. Additionally, Winchester only produced a total of only 9,335 rifles in all chamberings in 1937. This rifle came to us from a seller in New Zealand and because of current import regulations, it has been discreetly marked with the name of the importer on the right side of the receiver, just above the stock line (see pictures).

We the rifle arrived here, the bottom metal was in poor condition. We re-blued the bottom metal, using the older rust blue method, to restore it to its original condition. The rest of the metal finishes are in very good condition, with some minor blemishes and wear. There is a small ding in the barrel, just behind the front sight ramp. The receiver has not been drilled with any additional holes for scope mounts.

The stock is correct for the rifle but has been previously refinished. There are small handling marks and dings, but no splits, cracks or other notable damage. The stock retains its steel buttplate, which has some light wear and shallow dings and pits. The checkering has some wear and flat spots.

The bore of the 24" barrel is in fair condition; there is notable pitting throughout the length of the bore. While this pitting does not preclude safe operation of the rifle, we assume it could have an effect on accuracy. It grades a 6 out of 10 under borescope examination.
