This Model 70 standard rifle was produced in 1938; the receiver and bolt are both marked with serial number 17163. Not only is this a very early rifle, but it is chambered in a rare caliber - the 7mm Mauser (7x57). Less than 1,500 model 70's were produced in this chambering. The rifle has been extensively restored and refinished by the Pre64 team. It is equipped with a Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight. All parts appear to be correct for the year, model, and caliber.
The low-comb stock has been refinished by the Pre64 team, including recutting the checkering and bluing the steel butt plate. The stock is in excellent (refinished) condition without any notable wear or damage except just a very few slightly flattened points in the checkering. There are no cracks, splits, modifications (other than a notch for the receiver sight), or major defects.
Most metal parts have been reblued using the slow rust bluing method and are now in very good to excellent (refinished) condition. The are no notable gouges, scratches, deep dings, or other metal damage.
The bore of the 24" standard contour barrel has light throat wear and a few shallow pits. It rates an 8 out of 10. Borescope verified.
