New buttplates are original Winchester parts that have never been installed on a rifle before. They are in perfect condition and must be fitted to your rifle.
Excellent condition buttplates have been previously installed on a rifle but only show very minor signs of wear in the finish
Very good condition buttplates show finish wear, but have no notable metal damage.
Fair condition buttplates have significant finish wear, and scratches, dings and dents to the metal. In most cases these pieces will need to be refinished.
NOTE: Buttplates were individually fitted to each stock in the Winchester factory. They are not fully interchangeable and some fitting may be required to install a different buttplate to a rifle. This fitting may include minor reshaping of the buttplate AND/OR THE STOCK. Please anticipate this reality when purchasing a replacement buttplate.
Restored buttplates have been previously installed on a rifle, but have been restored to replicate their original appearance. These buttplates may still show some signs of wear in their metal.
We use the NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards Grading System for grading part conditions. You can read about it HERE
