This rifle came to our shop from the estate of a prolific model 70 collector and big game hunter. It is an extraordinary custom rifle, chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum and built on a 1963 short magnum action.
In talking to the original owner's brother, this rifle was designed for large game at long range, and in difficult back country. The rifle is exceptionally light, yet built like a tank. Here is a rundown of it's features:
1963 Short Magnum Winchester Model 70 action (all correct short magnum parts)
Brown Precision "Alaskan" fiberglass stock with Decelerator recoil pad
Pillar and match bedded from the tang to the end of the barrel channel
0-degree MOA picatinny rail mount with tactical rings
4-14x44 AO scope
When we received the rifle, it was in good overall mechanical condition, but it had been hunted with, including the usual wear of use, a faded camouflage finish on the stock and some other cosmetic issues which we decided to address before it left our shop. Here is a list of the work accomplished in our shop on this rifle:
Fully blueprinted the receiver and bolt
Refinished the stock in Kryptec Typhoon camouflage with an ultra-flat top coat
Refinished the action, scope and bottom metal in oven-cured Duraoat
Replaced the trigger
The finished rifle is now mechanically perfect, with a look to match the extreme customizations this rifle features. A few minor blemishes remain from past use, but this is now a fantastic looking and shooting rifle. The bore is perfect, the action is smooth and the scope is crystal clear.
